Message from Tom Scholz – posted on www.bandboston.com
As you all know by now, BOSTON’S lead singer, Brad Delp, was found
dead in his home on Friday, March 9th 2007. Plans for live BOSTON performances this summer have, of course, been cancelled.

My heart goes out to his wonderful fiance Pamela, his two children and other family members, his close friends

and band mates, and to the millions of people whose lives were made a little brighter by the sound of his voice.

He will be dearly missed. — Tom Scholz

Meck,
I want to thank you for the wonderful, heart felt article you wrote in remembrance of my friend Brad.

From the minute he met you in Atlanta, you were part of his lexicon, part of his life, a friend. We would often fondly recall “The Meck”, your heart and your kindness. He would always look forward to the southeast shows, as that meant he’d visit with you again.

It meant a lot to Brad when you invited him to the ballpark in Atlanta, and we all had a memorable time. You took such good care of us, like we were family, although we had known you for just a day. I have great photos of that event taken by Walter, the legendary Braves official photographer.

You have a wonderful heart Meck, and you made an impression on Brad. Whenever we spoke of The Meck, we would smile and a story or two would ensue, always punctuated with an enthusiastic “It’s Time To Smell The Cornfields, Baby”!

Yesterday, we said goodbye to our friend in a very private ceremony in New Hampshire.
Again, thanks for your heartfelt remembrance.

Best Regards,

Bill Faulkner

Thanks Bill for sharing your heart. I will treasure your words for a Long Time.
I hope we can interview you soon regarding your dear friend .. Brad Delp.

Coming soon .. We’ll post some interviews we did with Brad on our Radio Show.
And we might post some video clips from Brad’s visit to Dothan with Javy.

Thanks for listening today as we pay tribute to our friend Brad Delp.
The internet is full of praise for Brad’s music and even higher adoration for him as a person.

What will they say about you when you die?
Will they say anything at all ?

Brad Delp’s Legacy is that he Served Others. Giving him Everlasting Fame and Fortune.
Will your legacy outlive your music [ your profession] ?
It’s the question we all must ask ourselves.
Meck

The Meck Radio Show w/ Eddie Carswell – The Christmas Shoes / NewSong 12/20/06
www.TheMeck.com Posted: 2:09a ct. [ Show Time: 31 Mins]

We re-visit this interv. just several days before Christmas Eve.
Be sure and share this show with a friend over the holidays.
Reach out and touch someone’s life. Give them your T I M E.
The week after Christmas is the highest week of suicides all year.

“Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight.”
Chorus – The Christmas Shoes

Meck Notes: Open the show with my close friend – BIG JIM Kearce.
Big Jim was very touched by the Paul Finebaum Interv. [ 12/19/06.]
‘I’ve been hearing Paul for sometime. Paul is very clever .. and tight when he needed to be.’

‘Never suspected there was the other side you showed us [in the interview.] ‘
‘ He’s talented and very bright. The other side .. very warm and compassionate.
He has great love and respect for his parents. ‘

‘That’s why I was fond of Elvis. His love and respect for his parents.
Paul has that same soft side. A big reason for Paul’s success is the discipline
and the love that came from his mother and father.’ – Big Jim Kearce

Thoughts on Eddie Carswell and The Christmas Shoes.

‘Mr. Carswell is a phenominal writer. ‘
‘His song Christmas Shoes talks about people who are hurting .. reaching out ..
and the joy of giving.’ – Jim Kearce

This amazing song reminds us of a man who was so wrapped up in chasing the American dream – money. And how a little boy taught him about lasting fortune.
The man is standing in line on Christmas Eve – last minute shopping.
Also standing in line, is a little boy, buying some shoes for his dying Mama.
He gets to the cashier and doesn’t have enough money for his Mama’s shoes.
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size.

An Interview with Songwriter EDDIE CARSWELL of NewSong.
Eddie wrote the No. 1 Hit – Christmas Shoes. Sung by Billy Goodwin.
[ Both are founders of the group NewSong 25 years ago]

This touching song went to No. 1 on the charts [ Christmas 2000]
in just 3 weeks. Tying Butterfly Kisses as the fastest to hit No. 1 in Billboard History.

It also inspired The Book – Christmas Shoes .. a New York Times Best Seller.
Plus the CBS Movie – Christmas Shoes .. starring Rob Lowe.

New Release by NewSong – The Christmas Hope CD.
NEW Acoustic String Version – The Christmas Shoes.

www.NewSongOnline.com

In Jan. 2000 .. Eddie and Meck visited backstage re TIME [sharing their thoughts.]
Eddie Carswell wrote the inspiring theme song T I M E spells LOVE .. [for the Meck]

Eddie says regarding T I M E [ especially re children]
‘ Don’t tell me how much you love me .. if you can’t spend time with me.’

Thanks Eddie for your T I M E thru the years and writing this wonderful song.
We appreciate your interview also.

Newsong
The Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing ’round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I’ll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama’s gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

” Bobby Cox is the Greatest Manager in the History of Baseball.”- Bob Nightengale/USA TODAY.

The Sporting News, in a poll of his peers, has named Bobby Cox – Manager of the Year – 8 times.
Since 1936, when the magazine started balloting .. No other manager has won the award more than 3 times.
In May .. Bobby passed Mgr. Sparky Anderson [ 2,194] to become 4th all-time in wins.
The Hall of Fame will come calling one day – 1st ballot.
Seg 1 – My friend, engineer Super Dave shares his thoughts on Michael Vick.
My friend Chief White told me why a dog is man’s best friend.
It goes back to the Indians.

The Meck gives Manager Bobby Cox a jingle. [Braves at Marlins - 7:05 et].

The Meck interviews Bobby Cox.
This is our 9th [ weekly] show with Manager Bobby Cox.
You can listen to any of our previous shows – 24/7. [ Radio Show Page].

Bobby gives us a unique view and insight – as always.
Bobby talks about the current road trip.

Meck: You just left St. Louis .. I remember the 1996 NLCS at St. Lou
visiting in the dugout w/ you about 3p.[ down 3-1] and you told me ..
‘We’ll come back. We’ll win this series.‘ [ and you did].
You never give up .. do you ?

Bobby: ‘Every day is a new game. You need to play ‘em like that. All out.’
‘We’ll do the best we can every single ballgame.’

Meck: You’re in the stadium where you played the 97 NLCS [ vs the Marlins].
I was there and saw Denny Neagle pitch a complete game gem.
The Marlins went on to win the World Series as a wildcard.

Bobby: ‘There’s nothing wrong with winning that wildcard.
The important thing is get in the playoffs.
Look what St. Louis did last year when they got in with 83 wins or so and went on and won the WS.
It’s really a crap shoot once you get there.
If the team’s hot .. the breaks go your way for a real short period of time .. you can win it.’

‘You don’t have to have a great record to get in.’ – BC

Meck: Can you believe Cincy is only 6 back ?

Bobby talks about the NL Central .. Reds and Cards.
Meck: The Red Sox got in as a wildcard and won the WS?
Meck: Skipper .. I believe the reason I like baseball so much .. it’s a lot like life ..
ups and downs. You can’t ever give up ?
Bobby: ‘Our guys care about the game and winning.
We absolutely haven’t given up.’ ‘We’re in it.’

How’s Andruw and Chipper doing ?

Meck: Have you ever seen [as a mgr] anything like what happen to Edgar Renteria
[re-injured in his first AB] and back on the DL ?
Bobby: ‘He did everything possible that a player can on the practice field.’

‘We went through that with [ Pitcher] remember John Thomson .. he had that finger.
We counted on him starting one of those games in the playoffs against Houston.
He lasted I think one batter and it blew up on him.
You’re always careful .. but you never know.’

How’s Chuck James ?
Bobby: ‘He should start around the 1st of Sept.’

Meck: I heard Joe Simpson say [recently]: ‘ Jo Jo Reyes just
needs to Trust His Stuff.’
It seems like to me yesterday in St. Lou .. Jo Jo said to himself ..’ I just belong here.’
He didn’t walk anybody ?

Bobby: ‘He didn’t walk anybody.’
‘He had a lot more strikes than balls thrown.’ ‘This kid’s tough.’
‘He doesn’t scare. Just because he had walked some guys before ..
Doesn’t mean he was nibbling at the plate. He was trying to throw strikes.’
‘I like the kid a lot. He figures in big for next year.’

Meck: Manny Acosta has been great in mid relief .. [7.2 inns. - 0 ER]
Bobby: ‘He’s been absolutely perfection here.
Keeping the ball down extremely well.’
‘Wait till you meet this kid, Meck.
You’ll never meet a better kid than this guy.’
Meck: Ron Mahay [ 13 inns - only 3 earned runs]. He really throws strikes.
[ He reminds me of Graeme Lloyd - Yankees long reliever during the 90's].

Bobby: ‘He’s good against RH hitters too.’ ‘Not just a situation pitcher.’

Meck: How tough was it for you to let Wickman go?

Meck: Looks like Andruw’s on pace to get 30 HR’s and 110 RBI’s ..
[as we discussed 6 weeks ago].
Bobby: ‘Yeah .. He’s gonna hit close to 30 and drive in right at 100 .. as he always does.’
‘Batt. Avg. is down. His Defense is as Good as Ever. Basically .. It’s the same Andruw.’
Meck: Aug. 27, 1996 .. [11 years ago today]
Denny Neagle [Pirates] pitched 8 strong innings vs. the Braves.
The next day the Braves acquired Neagle on the waiver wire for Jason Schmidt.
I keep hoping the Braves find a starting pitcher by Aug. 31..?

Bobby: ‘It’s not that the front office isn’t trying. They are.’
‘The fact is .. there’s not a lot of quality ones out there like the Neagles.’
‘There’s so many teams that are in the wildcard chase.
Nobody’s willing to give up any of their pitchers. ‘
‘It’s a very small market for that type of guy we’re looking for.’
Meck: Michael Vick pled guilty today. Your thoughts ?
Bobby: ‘I can’t imagine anybody hanging dogs .. or drowning them .. or electrocuting them.’
I just can’t comprehend that.’

‘We’re in the business [ my charity is] to fix dogs up and bring ‘em back to life
and get ‘em a home.’ – BC

Meck: It only takes One Hundred Dollars to rescue and repair a dog ?
Bobby: ‘We feed ‘em for a good while .. and all the surgery that some require and medicine.
That’s the number we came up with.’
‘They’re well worth it .. That’s for sure.’

Meck: Sep. 9th is ‘Bobby Cox Paws BeCause’ – ‘Bark in the Park’ day.
Bobby: ‘Yes we are .. at the ballpark. Part of that money goes to the Homeless Pets Foundation.
We’re very proud of that. Every little dollar helps.’
